Cool retro looking photoshop tutorial
Found the cause of last weekend’s enforced Shutdown Day involvement – a fried graphics card. Considering that my NVIDIA GeForce4 MX graphics that came originally with my Quicksilver is almost 6 yr-old and is way past its usual life-span, it became only the third item I had to replace from my Mac, first being the SuperDrive, followed by the Airport Card.
I managed to get a replacement card from this cool fella, William, from the little Mac Shop. Previously operating from his home at Siglap, he has shifted to a rather ulu place at Ubi Centre. He responded to my WTB at MUGS and was kind enough to wait for me this evening to pick up the Radeon® 9000 64MB Mac Edition. Man, if you ever want to see past Macs before the second-coming of Jobs, go visit the shop!
They do have quite some spare parts from old Macs which you might need, like myself, to replace faulty ones – do drop William an email at email@example.com. Your old Macs might just love you more for that!
The shop’s address is 57 Ubi Avenue 1, Ubi Centre #07-07 Singapore 408936.
Put a giant inflatable platform, a tramboline, a net in-between and 4 men on each side – preferably with volleyball, football and a little capoeira background, and one with gymnastic ability will be a bonus too – and you get – Bossaball!
I’m not sure where this game originated, but looking at the official site and the photos and videos, not surprise if this is from the land of beaches, bikinis and football – Brazil. Here’s a sample of the rules:
bq.. Bossaball can be played in teams of three to five players. The aim of bossaball is for each team to ground the ball on the opponent’s field.
Each team is entitled to a maximum of 8 contacts with the ball on its own field, while the trampoline jumper gains height to prepare a smash.
Any body part can be used. Players can touch the ball only once with their hands, or double touch it with their feet and/or head.
Once a team grounds the ball on the inflatables they gain one point. Scoring on the trampolines is worth three points. Hitting the bossawall – the rings around the trampolines – doesn’t count as a score, so the rally continues — Wikipedia
p. And check out this entry about the Bossaball referees — They have a whistle, a microphone, various percussion instruments and a dj set. Yep. A DJ Set. He’ll probably be scratching and whistling while gesturing for the scores.
A video of the game between Brazil and Spain will give you a better idea:
So when will we see this at Sentosa?
Today is Shutdown Day – where one goes offline for a day by switching of their computer of choice for the whole day. The intention is to get us off facing a monitor for one full day, especially for some like myself who works in front of the monitor and returns home nightly to catch Heroes or How I Met Your Mother.
So today, to join in this global initiative, my trusty old Quicksilver G4 Powermac is off. Since last night actually. Unusual for me as it usually be working his asses off grabbing bytes off the rest of the world.
However, since last night, the graphics card, or what i think is the graphics card, died on me and the Mac couldn’t be booted up. After almost 6 long years, it finally refuse my touch and not give that loud Bong that our Macs greet us.
But after some good old detective work with my teacher-cum-Mac expert pal James, we manage to make it boot up again but with a blank screen.
So without another machine, i can’t do remote control via VNC or set it on Target Mode for mounting. So, it’s Shutdown Day, or maybe Shutdown Week.
ironically, I’m posting this with my mobile N80. So can one be really offline there days? Till next time when I have a proper machine. Posting with the mobile is a headache. Shutdown my friend.

Know this alil late – but Travis is back with a new album come May – THE BOY WITH NO NAME – after a long 4 years back.
The first single from the album is called Closer – and of all places to hear about it was when I watch the Top Gear Of the Pops Comic Relief Special shown on the BBC! The MTV of the song was filmed in California and features a short cameo by Ben “Zoolander” Stiller. Bet this will be a big hit when it is released!
The last time these guys were here, it was back in 2001 and was a double-bill with Coldplay! To say the concert was the bomb was just pure understating it! Two of the biggest bands right on stage! But hey that’s 2001…can’t wait to listen to the new album when it’s out!
Lyrics of the new song and the live recording at the show Top Gear of the Pop after the jump…
Must listen to this.
