Update – Statement from The Killers (21 Jan)

It is with great regret that The Killers have been forced to cancel their upcoming appearances in Singapore, Beijing, Hong Kong, Manila, Tokyo and Seoul due to unforeseen circumstances involving a serious illness of a close family member. The band deeply apologizes to their fans and hopes to reschedule their shows in these cities soon, we hope you understand and respect our privacy at this difficult time. At this time, the band’s Australian appearances remain scheduled as planned.

Many people, including a fair number from around the region were looking forward to troop down to Singapore Indoor Stadium to watch The Killers perform in Singapore on Sunday. Tickets from S$88 to S$168 were sold out within a day and many were ready to rock with the group from Las Vegas.

Sometime past lunch, SMSs, emails and tweets start popping of the concert being canceled! Within minutes, reports came from news sites and Sistic about the cancellation.

A short release from the band were in the report:

It is with great regret that The Killers have been forced to cancel their upcoming appearances in Singapore, Beijing, Hong Kong, Manila, Tokyo and Seoul due to unforeseen circumstances.

The band deeply apologizes to their fans and hopes to reschedule their shows in these cities soon.

Coming just two days before the concert, reaction from all who were looking forward were disbelief and anger. Mostly anger if you were to look at Twitter. Speculation of them disbanding/taking hiatus were spreading from an interview done where the band were reported to be taking a long break after their Australian gig sometime in Feb.

“I’m not sure if people are aware of it but these are probably our last shows for a while,” guitarist Dave Keuning let slip to an Australian Associated Press journo late last week from his home in Las Vegas.

“We haven’t had a break in quite a while. It’s just been touring and making records and on and on and on. It’s been like six years just kind of connected together.

“It’s like people just expect us to do that non-stop till we die, but we just want a little bit of time off, just to be myself and do what I want to do for a little bit.”

That last show according to that report is the Good Vibrations 2010 tour, which kicks off at Centennial Park in Sydney on February 13 and wraps up at Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse on the 21st. Guess who is headlining the tour – yes, The Killers!

Last checked, Australia is just a couple of hours from Singapore. Since they are flying all the way down to Australia to headline the Good Vibrations Festival, why not just do the Asia tour as well? They can jolly well take their long deserved break after February.

A pal in the media industry probably explains it best:

Legal record sales prob higher in Oz. Tour covers different states earns more than all misc. venues all over Asia.

Let’s hope this other band don’t pull a fast one like The Killers.

So yes, us – The Killers’ fans – we won’t get to see this:
